Profile

Research and teaching in the field of insurance law are central to the activities of the Institute of Insurance Research at the University of Muenster. The institute unites research and application of insurance law and is based on the knowledge of recognized experts on this vast field. Additionally to dealing with questions of insurance contracts and the law of insurance control, the institute also focuses on social insurance law. The Institute of Insurance Research was founded in 1989 by Prof. Dr. iur. Dr. med. h.c. Helmut Kollhosser and added to the Faculty of Law. Since 2005 the institute is led by managing director Prof. Dr. iur. Petra Pohlmann. Next to Mrs. Pohlmann, five other directors contribute to research and teaching: Prof. Dr. rer pol. Berens, Prof. Dr. iur. Heinrich Dörner, Prof. Dr. iur. Dirk Ehlers, Prof. Dr. iur. Martin Schulze Schwienhorst and Prof. Dr. iur. Heinz-Dietrich Steinmeyer.

The institute offers students of all faculties the possibility to gain a Certificate in Insurance Law covering insurance contract law, social insurance law and insurance control law.

Furthermore, students have the option to acquire an LL.M. in Insurance Law after they completed the 1st state law examination.

The institute is supported by the Society for the promotion of the Muenster Institute of Insurance Research (personal members/corporate members).
