The winners of the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition’s regional rounds, including the team from University of Münster, on their way to the finals in Geneva, Switzerland

The famous international trade law moot court linked to the World Trade Organization (WTO) based in Geneva, Switzerland is holding its 20th edition of the competition. The six regional rounds: an All-American Round, two Asia-Pacific Rounds, two European Rounds and an African Round with over 100 teams have been concluded and the four best teams from each round qualify to participate in the Final Oral Round, which takes place in Geneva in the WTO.

Frederike Leugers, Franziska Rönnau and Felix Schorling from University of Münster did an amazing job at the Second European Regional Round and they look forward to the experience in WTO where all the best teams from all over the world will be.

University of Münster has been participating in this competition for 10 years. The competition is a simulated hearing of the WTO dispute settlement system. The teams prepare and analyse a fictive case and present their arguments in front of a Panel which consists of WTO and trade law experts. International trade law is an extremely interesting field of law under international law that regulates trade relations between countries and focuses extensively on how countries have the right to protect the environment, health, security, and other non-economic values. Often the fictional cases try to find a balance between the right to do business and to protect the environment, health, labour rights or other non-economic values.

Congratulations to Frederike Leugers, Franziska Rönnau, Felix Schorling and their coach Maarja Saluste for their excellent performance at the regional round and best of luck for the finals in Geneva!
