Dean’s Office

The Dean’s Office and Faculty Board comprise the two central administrative bodies of the Faculty of Law. The Dean is chosen from the group of professors and elected for a four-year term by the Faculty Board. The Dean acts as head of the faculty and its representative at the University and thus serves as chair of the Faculty Board and its executive body. The Dean’s duties include preparing the meetings of the Faculty Board, implementing its resolutions, and overseeing the day-to-day administration of the Faculty. In accordance with the Higher Education Act of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz NRW), the Dean is responsible for ensuring a comprehensive curriculum, administrating academic and examination procedures, and deciding on the allocation of budgetary resources. The Vice-Dean and Dean of Studies assist the Dean in carrying out these tasks.
The Dean’s Office also oversees habilitation and doctoral procedures, provides organisational support in professorial appointment procedures and coordinates the hiring of tutors and grading assistants.
