The Willem C. Vis Moot Court is an international legal competition in which student teams from all over the world take part. This world's largest moot is organised by the Institute of International Commercial Law at Pace University School of Law, New York, in cooperation with UNCITRAL (United Nations Commission on International Trade Law) and other arbitration institutions. The competition consists of a written and an oral part and covers a period of approximately six months. Initially, the student teams will work on a fictitious case and prepare a statement of claim as the plaintiff's representative. The legal case must be dealt with in English, both in the briefs and in the subsequent oral proceedings. During the course of the moot court, each team will receive the statement of claim from another group and respond to it in the form of a statement of defence.
