Below you will find current information on the doctoral guidelines of the chair and the faculty.

General information

Before applying for a doctorate at the Chair, please refer to the doctoral regulations for information on the general requirements for a doctorate at the Faculty of Law of the University of Münster.

Guidelines of the Chair

1. Prof Mäsch will only supervise a doctoral project if the candidate has passed the First State Examination in Law with a grade of at least ‘fully satisfactory’. Other interested parties will be supervised in individual cases if there has already been personal contact prior to the application (e.g. in the context of lectures or seminars) and the interested party has given the impression of particular academic aptitude.

2. Prospective students who fulfil the conditions of No. 1 are not entitled to supervision. The right to refuse supervision is reserved, for example, in the event that the chair's supervision capacities are exhausted by doctoral candidates who have already been accepted.

3. The dissertation topic is assigned in consultation between Prof. Mäsch and the prospective student. The latter is expected to develop his/her own ideas about the possible topic of the dissertation in the form of an exposé. This should be within the area of research specialisation of the chair. Details will be clarified in a personal interview.

4. Requests for supervision can be submitted in writing or by e-mail to iwr1@uni-muenster.de. Please enclose certificates and diplomas (as a single copy or scanned), an outline of any desired topic and information about the current activity/position of the interested party.
